Po reported what is, by far, one of the most outrageous claims we’ve ever heard from a bride: that all the guests do a pre- wedding cleanse. From the article: According to an email from her publicist, “Rainbeau hopes that by requesting her guests try out a vegan, and subsequently live food diet for 2. HER big day.”Guests can look forward to “unique activities ranging from breath work classes, to yoga and horseback riding,” at the “three- day summer affair on the island paradise of Kauai,” according to Mars’ publicist. While some commenters chimed in to say that they know the bride (who is apparently some sort of health guru, and offers cleanse plans and ebooks for purchase on her website) and that “it was NOT a request, it was an invitation,” our reaction was, “Welp, thanks Rainbeau. This is why we can’t have nice things.” Because seriously. There’s a reason there are so many evangelists for things like Cross. Fit and veganism and Soul. Cycle. But it’s pretty annoying when a friend can’t stop trying to convert you. Even though there are plenty of people who do them for other reasons, this comes across as asking a guest to lose weight before your wedding. And that’s going to (understandably!) leave a pretty bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths. While we can’t imagine anyone in the Wedding Party community would ever pull a stunt like this, it did make us wonder about couples who make less- insidious requests of the bridal party, friends, or guests that perfectly reasonable couples may be considering. We’re pretty against the idea of asking your bridal party to alter their appearances in any way, but a lot of people still ask friends to cover up their tattoos if they are in the bridal party.? What about taking a group workout class instead of having a traditional bachelorette party? While that seems totally innocuous (and fun!) to me, I suppose it carries some weight- loss implication with it so it may make people feel similarly uncomfortable. In most cases, it’s probably about knowing your audience. Considering how many guests defended the cleanse request on Huff. Po, it’s fair to say that you may know your guests better than anyone else and you shouldn’t let some stranger on the Internet try to talk you out of having your awesome costume party wedding if you know your guests will love it. But we’d still love to hear your thoughts on this! So tell us: how far is too far when it comes to making requests of your family, friends, and guests? This was a guest post by our friend Rachel Wilkerson. She also happens to be planning her wedding! You can see more of her writing on her brand- new blog?
